PROPOSITION 65
What Is Proposition 65? Why Is There a Warning on My Product?
If you’ve spotted a Proposition 65 label on your sound healing tool, don’t worry! This doesn’t mean the product is unsafe. Here’s what it means:
Proposition 65, officially called the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a California law that requires businesses to warn consumers if a product contains even trace amounts of certain chemicals that the state has linked to cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm.
California’s list includes over 800 chemicals, and new ones are added regularly.
Why is this WARNING on my product?
If a product sold in California might expose someone to even a very small amount of one of these listed chemicals, it legally needs to carry a warning label. This doesn’t mean the product is harmful or unsafe. Many of the exposure limits under Proposition 65 are set far below levels considered harmful by organizations like the FDA, EPA, or WHO.
Is it Safe?
Yes. This warning is about transparency, not danger. Many common items carry similar labels—such as electronics, ceramics, jewelry, and even food like rice and coffee. Seeing the label just means the product meets California’s strict standards, not that it’s unsafe.
Does this mean the product is dangerous?
Not at all. A Proposition 65 warning is about transparency. It simply lets California consumers know that a listed chemical might be present, even if it’s only in trace amounts. Many everyday products, from electronics to ceramics and even food packaging, carry similar warnings if sold in California.
Why do I see this Label even if I don’t live in California?
While the law only applies to California, manufacturers often apply the label to all of their packaging or products to simplify distribution. So, you might see the warning even if the product was bought outside California.
How about my Sound Healing Tools?
Some of the instruments we offer, such as gongs, chimes, or tuning forks, may include small amounts of metals, finishes, or packaging materials that fall under this regulation. When required, we include the label so you can be informed and confident about your purchase.
